The River Bridge Incident · v5

The River Bridge Incident has new clothes. Same goats, same seized '39 Zephyr, same 142.85 MHz pirate broadcast, now dressed for the year the Zephyr rolled: 1939, the World's Fair year, when the fair called itself "The World of Tomorrow."

The titles are set in Limelight, Deco from the age of the streamliner. The story is in Garamond, and the dispatches come off a typewriter. Gold sits where things are; cyan only wakes when you touch it. A sunburst rail crowns the contraption and hangs beneath it like a marquee. And the seal's ink finally moves.

It's a first step. River Bridge is becoming one stop in a longer story: mechanical entertainment, from the first hand-cranked music to the machines that walk.

Gemini built the contraption; Claude refit it for 1939; Margaret saw the fair in it.
